walking, cycling and mountain bike (gravel) routes

Our B&B is spaciously equipped, but extra attention has been paid to cyclists.

A bike stand, various tools, and cleaning equipment are available in the storage room.

My own great passion and hobby is and remains mountain biking!

I have been mountain biking since I was 17 and have since become a seasoned XC ultra marathon biker (I am now in the 50 category).

My heart lies in riding extreme challenges, stage races and ultra distances.

In recent years I have cycled multi-day tours in the Apennines, Ardennes, Morocco Atlas and Sahara, South Africa and Chile

My training schedules give me the necessary structure to peak at the right times and train for a specific event.

But I am often available for a round in between.

Feel free to ask, I might join you for a ride.

I know all the official and unofficial routes in the area, and have therefore collected a number of routes that can be ridden for all different fitness and skill levels.

By the way, most routes are easy to do with a Gravel bike, but there may be technical sections with drops or roots.

Cycling

Besides the mountain bike and gravel routes, there are of course also many routes for cyclists to cycle here.

The hilly country, land of Herve and the Voerstreek around the corner, makes this area a true cycling paradise.

Climbs such as the Keutenberg, Slingerberg, Camerig and Dodeman are all within easy reach and you can enjoy them to your heart's content here.

Everywhere you will find villages with cozy cafes and terraces.

Feel free to ask me about the lesser known, but great rest stops along your route.

Below you will find a number of routes with different climbs and beautiful rest areas.

Walking

Hiking is possible everywhere in the area! From a short walk through the Savels forest to day hikes through the Heuvelland hills.

Step out of "het Poortgebouw"... and within 10 minutes, you'll find beautiful woods perfect for a stroll. In fact, the Savelsbos forest is considered one of the most beautiful in the country! Lucky us!

01 - Limburg's most beautiful (MTB)

1499 HM | 85 KM | 5 -6 U

This route shows almost all the beauty that Limburg has to offer.

Views, single trails, technical descents and the necessary climbing... it's all there.

At km 32 there is an option to turn off to Le Peleton - a nice bike shop on the Plank.

And at km 57 you can take a break at the Hijgend Hert - the only mountain hut in the Netherlands

02 - Limburg's most beautiful - short (MTB)

750 HM | 50 km | 2.5 hours

This route is the best the immediate area has to offer. Fields, vistas, the occasional steep climb, and a short technical section at the end.

2.5 hours if you are fit and train regularly.

Limburg's most beautiful - long - (MTB)

1940 HM | 100 KM | 6 - 7 hours

This route shows almost all the beauty that Limburg has to offer, but with a little more...

Large sections of the Vijlen route are included here. Perhaps the most beautiful in the Netherlands!

Views, single trails, technical descents and the necessary climbing... it's all there.

04 - the short tour (MTB)

315 HM | 30 KM | 1.5 hours

This route is short at 30 km, but easily doable for everyone. Plan on taking 1.5 hours or make it a faster workout of 1 hour and 15 minutes.

In less than a 5-minute bike ride, you're in the forest, and the route begins with a long, gently ascending section... the first 125m of elevation gain are already covered after about 10 kilometers. After that, most of the work is already done.

05 - High Kempen (MTB & GRAVEL)

345 hm | 56 km | 2,5 -3 u

This route goes over the road to the Hoge Kempen domain in Belgium.

The first and last 13 km are therefore respectively a warm-up and a cool-down.

The circuit in the High Kempen is beautiful, fast and winding.

This route is beautiful in summer, but certainly also on a sunny, cold winter day.

If your legs feel good, you can add some more routes yourself... there are a number of beautiful routes that can be linked together in that area.

On the longer routes there are also some places to take a break (an old station building, for example)

2.5 hours if you are fit and train regularly.
